The Top Five Common Eating Mistakes…

Posted by Saito on July 6, 2009

woman-eating-apple

There are five common mistakes people think actually help them lose weight and stay healthy…they couldn’t have made a worse “mistake”; this completely effects “us teens” and our life style, we have to let our parents know what they are mistakenly doing:

1. Truthfully, we can’t tell the good fats from the bad fats.

Alice Lichtenstein, DSc, an American Heart Association spokesperson says, “Most people still don’t get that some fats are actually good for you, You want to avoid saturated and trans fats, but you need more monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats. Good sources are fish, nuts, avocados, and soybean and canola oils.”I know, half of that seems to be just a bunch of “yadyada” but still it’s a great source of info all the same.

2. To save money…most adults stoop down to take out.

Now I know it’s just necessary to have take out from a fast restaurant, it’s so convenient. But truthfully, calorie-wise, this fattening-pricey mistake can cost you more then you realize. Karen Weber Cullen, DPH, RD, research nutritionist at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston *pant* says, “People think that supersizing a restaurant meal is a money saver, but it’s not a health bargain if it has way too many calories.” My suggesting…rethink fast-food restaurant strategies =D.

3. Lol some people “imagine” that anything liquid doesn’t have any calories whatsoever…ooo that’s one BIG mistake.

You have to realize (or rather adults realize) that most liquid products DO have some kind of sugar within them…
Judith Stern, ScD, RD, professor of nutrition and internal medicine at the University of California, Davis *GASP* says, “What freaks me out is the amount of sugared soda and juice we drink. I’d like to see all the sugared drinks sent out into space, where they could orbit the Earth forever.” …yeah I know, she is “enthusiastic” about her work LOL. BUT I have to agree with her, ’cause it’s true…sugary soda and juice is not the right choice for any of us =)

4. K THIS is scary…we can’t really tell if were hungry…or not.

Elisabetta Politi, RD, nutrition manager of the Duke University Diet & Fitness Center in Durham, NC says, “If you don’t know when you’re hungry, you don’t know when you’re full, so you won’t know when to stop eating.” Too true, most of us really don’t know what “truly hungry” is…but as teens of course I’m sure we can decipher whether were hungry or just eating for pleasure…=P. Consult your doctor if you have though, a problem, deciphering whether your hungry or not.

5. Most American’s have what is called “Microwave Addiction”…

It means we rely heavily on processed microwavable goods…Jo Ann Hattner, RD, clinical dietitian at Stanford University Medical Center says, “Eating too many heavily processed foods can leave you short on fiber and antioxidants such as vitamin C.” You don’t want to be “missing something” like vitamin C in your diet, especially since we are still just teens and need all the help we can get <.<.

Helping your parents correct these "mistakes" will not only help you now, but obviously, later on in your life =D.

Well guys that's it for now, stay tuned for the next update =D.

The Top Five Benefits Of Water

Posted by Saito on June 4, 2009

WaterDropFlower

Water is essential to every part of your body. It contains everything your body needs for survival and a long life. There a some important cool reasons why drinking plenty of water is so beneficial, here’s the list:

1. Water helps in getting rid of head aches.
Seriously, three quarters of your brain is made out of water. It will help soothe your mind and take care your head ache no prob.

2. Water also helps take care of nasty infections.
If you have a fever, or any sort of cold/virus water helps clear out the infection so you may return back to normal.

3. Water takes care of your skin.
It helps keep your skin smooth and healthy. If you don’t drink enough water your skin can feel delicate and dry, giving you that unhealthy look.

4. Water takes care of bad breath.
Saliva helps get rid of bacteria that forms in your mouth, saliva is formed by water. If you don’t drink enough water, saliva won’t form in your mouth and therefore cause you bad breath.

5. Water takes care of concentrated urine.
If you don’t drink enough water, urine concentrates and that means there isn’t enough water flow through your kidney’s. The more water you drink the less concentrated your urine will be.

Water is one of the best ways to keep your body healthy, it even helps you lose weight. It flushes out toxins, keeps your system moving and I bet it can even help you live longer. But remember, don’t over do it. Keep everything in balance, not to much water, not to little of water in your system.

Well guys that’s it for now, stay tuned for the next update =D.

Summer Time: The Top Five Items You Need For Summer Weather

Posted by Saito on May 8, 2009

www.staffordshirefire.gov.uk

Hey guys! I believe it’s time to start preparing for summer weather.

Let’s see…The Top Five Items You Need For Summer Weather are:

1. The most important item to have with you is a water bottle!

water

No need for too much input, just keep a water around whether it’s outside or inside, temperatures cause your body to sweat more often and if your body is low on water that causes dehydration.

2. Sunscreen is a must

sunscreen

You always need at least a little bit of sunscreen when walking outside and absorbing the sunny rays. If you don’t use sunscreen and tend to burn your skin often, that can cause you Skin Cancer later on in life…so try to avoid that if possible 🙂

I also would like to recommend that you buy an Organic brand of sunscreen so that you don’t get any bad chemicals in your system which may cause you more harm then good.

3. A pair of sunglasses (as a normal thing) is even more useful in the summer time

sunglasses

We have to protect our eyes from damage right? So protecting our eyes from UV rays which come from sunlight is in our best interest when playing outside or just being outside for the sake of it.

4. Extra deodorant in the summer time is also very helpful

LiquidDeodorant

K when you sweat more often in summer time you tend to stink a lot more too. Being extra thorough would serve you well :).

5. In case of burns having some Aloe Vera gel on hand would really help

aloe-vera

It really helps when you use Aloe Vera over a burnt area of skin that needs to heal properly, I HIGHLY recommend Aloe Vera gel since I use it often to help heal my skin when it comes to Acne and if I have a burn that’s the first item I reach for :).

HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP IS NOT YOUR FRIEND: Part 2

Posted by Saito on December 24, 2008

Hey here is another update for you guys out there concerning High Fructose Corn Syrup…

Right now, just for bringing out my personal experiences, I’m going to discuss different brands of food I used to intake all the time…

For starters Hienz Ketchup…yep that’s right my KETCHUP had unhealthy amounts of High Fructose Corn Syrup. I would always use it with my morning hash browns, burgers, french fries really ANYTHING that had to have ketchup to go with it…I now look back and I remember all that time I used this brand of ketchup and not realize the damage it caused my body…BUT there is so much more still to post it was in almost EVERYTHING me and my family owned!

The brand of Mayonnaise my parents used to buy was called Best Foods, and it was mostly High Fructose Corn Syrup. I was not as big on the Mayonnaise as I was Ketchup but my father loved it, including my entire family everybody consumed it…they also noted that they were looking a bit flabby in some area’s just like I HAVE and that was from the Mayonnaise!

Every lunch break after school I would eat one pickle, I use to think oh it’s just a cucumber dipped in a tasty brine…nothing wrong with that :D. I one day got curious after learning about HFCS and examined the back of the pickle jar…no it couldn’t be; yep it was HFCS was one of the main ingredients for the brine…

Well those three things were the basic food items I would daily consumed along with healthy products…and if I tried something something new out of the refrigerator I would continue to consume more HFCS we were completely unaware of the disgusting over dose…

Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner HFCS…ever day it was like that. I remember most of the other odd things I would eat/drink that had High Fructose Corn Syrup…

Let’s start with drinks. My mom and I loved Coca Cola, we must have had at least two a day…when we were just discovering the harmful effects of HFCS we took a look at the ingredients our Coke’s were full of…not only did it have HFCS but it also had the equivalent of SEVEN teaspoons of sugar per can…yeah I know gross…

After that we got scared, what about are other juices/soft drinks? Well we would get a brand of guava juice made by Curns and so were thinking Oh it’s all natural, and so tasty it must be healthy…we took a look at the back of the juice box and found HFCS second to the top of all the ingredients. Oh great, now it’s in our juices we thought used to be completely natural…what is going on?

We examined the obvious items that would have HFCS…are sugary products. We had a brand of Hershey’s chocolate syrup, the ingredients they showed on the back had HFCS first on the list…yeah really disgusting, I always seemed to feel sick after having ice cream or chocolate milk…it was to sugary the HFCS was to much…

Well those were the products that I can recall the most as I used them often in my food…how disgusting everyday I would ingest so much extra fat! I now know what gave me obesity and health problems…like acne for an example :/

If you know about products that contain HFCS post a comment explaining what it is and it’s brand name so we can alert others who might have the same food products, I’ll post it in the list of HFCS products below:

Brand Food type

Hienz/Ketchup

Best foods/Mayonnaise

Kosher Dill/Pickles

Coca Cola Co./Soda

Curns/Guava

The Hershey Company/Chocolate Syrup
